Introduction

As I am now completing the last unit is Social Studies 10-1, I am required to consider "To what extent should I, as a citizen, respond to globalization?"

I think that one of the most important thing to me is human rights. In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, article 18 states "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance." This is important to me because a lot people judge me according to the fact that I wear skirts and don't cut my hair. Some people automatically label me as a teenager who is forced to do things by her parents, but that is not so. I do it because it is the right thing to do and because the Bible says to.

The sad thing is, not a lot of people know or understand the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I think that it should have to be read by every kid in school and when a person immigrates, it should have to be given them with their immigration papers. It is a very strong document and I think that it should be distributed to more people.
